How To - Allow Java Updates
Posted by , Last modified by Jim Giseburt on 21 July 2017 04:01 PM

Java is a necessary component of many programs and online plugins.

Depending on your firewall configuration, it is possible that updates are being blocked. Java will normally notify you that there is an update available. If your firewall is blocking the updates, however, your download attempt will stall and fail. To ensure that your CIPAFilter firewall is not causing the issue, you should enter the rule below into your firewall page, substituting with your internal subnet(s).

Java Firewall Rule

To create the rule you will need to:

  • Navigate to the Stateful Firewall page
  • Click Insert New Rule
  • Set Action to Accept
  • Change Protocol to TCP
  • Add the Connections From Subnet (your internal subnet)
  • Enter in the Connections To field
  • Change the On Port to 56107
  • Name the rule in the Comment section, in this case "Java Updates"
  • Click on the blue Save and Apply button
