Email Archiving - Journaling with Office 365
Posted by , Last modified by on 15 August 2014 08:56 AM

CIPAFilter email archiving with Office 365 works in much the same way as with an Exchange server. In order to use your CIPAFilter to archive email in conjunction with Office 365, you must publish a CNAME DNS record for your filter that points at the public IP address of the CIPAFilter. The alias should be the hostname of your CIPAFilter appended to the internet domain of your organization.

Configuring Office 365

From within your Office 365 account manager, click the "Options" dropdown and click "See All Options." Then click "Manage Myself" and select "My Organization" from the menu.

Click "Mail Control" in the lefthand menu, then click the "Journaling" icon and click "New" under Journal Rules.

In the "If the message is sent to or from..." dropdown, select [Apply to all messages]. In the "Journal the following messages..." dropdown, select All messages. In the "Send journal reports to:" field, type the email archive address of the CIPAFilter. NOTE: The archive address of the CIPAFilter must start with cipafilter_email_archive@ followed by the CNAME (alias) record of your CIPAFilter.

Give the rule a name and save your configuration. When asked if you would like the rule to apply to all future messages, click Yes. If a warning message about NDRs is displayed, simply close it.

Configuring the CIPAFilter

On the CIPAFilter web interface, navigate to the Anti-Spam configuration page under Email Filtering. Under "Additional E-mail Settings," click the "Email-Archive" dropdown and select Rcpt: cipafilter_email_archive. Click Save and Apply to save your changes.
